Meet Your CPAP Superhero

Rose Brown, RPSGT, CSE

“I especially love helping the elderly, vulnerable population.”

When Rose Brown said these words, it struck a chord. I could tell she meant them, and when I think about it, I’m not surprised.

But who is Rose? To start, it’s officially Rose Brown, RPSGT, CSE. She’s a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, otherwise known as a sleep technologist. In 2007, Rose went to school at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine right here in Boise, and she’s been practicing ever since. So, she knows her stuff. She passed the board exam and belongs to the BRTT, an organization that reviews her credentials every five years. This credential allows her to see patients and treat varying sleep disorders with CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure).

Perhaps you’ve heard of CPAP before. The therapy is used to treat those with sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. I mean, who doesn’t want a good night’s sleep?

For Rose, success means seeing patients put on the CPAP mask and sleep through the night — maybe their first peaceful sleep in years or decades!

Rose also treats cardiac issues and diabetes. When she gets a good report from her patient’s physician that their numbers are improving, it’s another measure of success for her.

She works hard to help her patients stay compliant and make their transition to therapy as easy as possible.

Again, it’s easy to see that Rose simply cares for her patients, right?

It was interesting to also hear her explain how things have changed over the years.

“It’s waaaay different from when I started, that’s for sure!” she exclaimed.

Today she can remotely access newer CPAP machines that connect to WiFi. This allows her to make adjustments to her patients’ therapy and see daily reports, an impossibility only a decade ago.

Of course, Rose is only thinking of her patients when it comes to this new technology. She’s simply happy that her patients are able to feel better both mentally and physically through therapy.

When she’s not working as a CPAP superhero, Rose is much like the rest of us. She does barre classes three days a week, loves to garden, volunteers at church, and spends time in nature in her camper.

As far as being a sleep technologist at Medicap, she is loving the new job. She just started in April and is excited to be part of the team.
